Teton Gravity Research’s new film ‘Pressure Drop’ explores what makes Great bear more than just a Heli-ski operation.

Teton Gravity Research’s recently released an article from their time spent with us while filming for their new movie ‘Pressure Drop’. It explores the relationship of Mandi Blewett, her two daughters; Dyllan and Zoe Blewett, and the remote business they run in a male dominated field. click here to read more.

Embracing Our Roots: From Flood to Flight

Whether you're carving untouched powder out there or warming up by the fire in our refined coastal lodge, every part of Great Bear Heli Skiing is steeped in our family’s history and love for this land. It began with a fishing lodge nestled in the rivers and peaks of BC’s Central Coast—our playground, our home. But when a massive flood washed it all away in 2010, what might have been an ending became a new beginning. We saw an opportunity. After five years of hard work—rebuilding, forging one of the largest Heli use tenures in BC, and planning for what felt like a dream under the northern sky—we launched our first proper heli-ski season in 2022.

Designed to Be Different: Small, Warm, and Personal

At Great Bear, we’re proud to operate differently. We’re a small, family-run boutique heli ski operation—partial lodge, partial home, full of human connection.

As owner and executive chef Mandi Blewett leads the way (with her daughters deeply involved, too), this isn’t about breaking ceilings—it’s about breaking molds. "Gender has had nothing to do with what path or passion any individual pursues," Mandi explains. What matters is being exceptional, passionate, and curious—and supporting each other in that journey.

Attention to Detail

We're not a corporate resort with one-size-fits-all polish. No—we think of every snowflake, every conversation, every locally grown and organic meal as an invitation to connect. Guests often tell us the lodge “helps you have feelings of connection to the place and to the people you are sharing it with.” Every detail matters equally—from where we guide you in the mountains to how we artfully plate dinner afterward.

As much as we love launching heli-ops at dawn, ensuring safety and thrill in effortless harmony, the adventure is only complete when you return to our lodge, greeted by welcoming staff, warmth, comfort, and lovingly prepared local and organic food. That is what completes the day—and fulfills our kind of legacy.

Seen in "Pressure Drop"—But More Than Just a Scene

Teton Gravity Research’s film Pressure Drop offers a breathtaking glimpse of our world—the endless terrain, our welcoming team, and the deep feeling of relaxation and adventure. That’s humbling and amazing in itself—but for us, it’s about showing why we do what we do. This isn’t fast racing. It isn’t mass production. It's about legacy, values, connection, and an experience different from all the rest. We are rooted in respect for the land and a deep commitment to community.

Final Thoughts: What Great Bear Means—and What It Shares

  • Legacy is how we steward land and family: what began as a flood’s aftermath has evolved into a thriving legacy of heli experiences grounded in history—and hope.

  • Woman- and family-led, not women-defined: this isn’t a brand statement for gender equity—it’s the natural rhythm of how we operate together, lifting up our team and our guests.

  • Guests become family: every journey ends here—with connection, nourishment, ease, and meaning, with return cliental year after year, fostering that deep connection and sense of care to help you sink into the perfect vacation.

  • Seen by many, known by few: TGR’s Pressure Drop captured our peaks—but being “more than a heli‐op” is something felt most deeply… when you're here, sharing our fire, snow, and soul, you’ll know.
